Valentine Hunks

How did I get to be so lucky?  I often ask myself that question...What did I ever do to deserve such an awesome guy?
Well, I found myself asking that same question last night as I thought back on the day I had with 3 boys I just adore!  I am truly blessed!

Last year was our first Valentine's Day as a family of 6.  And as you would figure with a family of 6 the budget is a little tight, so we decided to try something new.

Our family is perfectly matched with 3 boys and 3 girls...so Matt had an idea to open a restaurant for the girls, cook dinner, have a movie, and do some dancing.  It was awesome and the kids had so much fun!  Last year Onah was Izzy's valentine, Marie was Colten's valentine, and of course, I was Matt's valentine!
This is last year's Valentine's dance.  The boys even hung glow in the dark stars on the ceiling so we could dance under the stars!  So sweet!

Well, this year, they went above and beyond!  Each of our valentines had coupons for us!  Colten opened up a nail salon and painted our nails before our big date!
Here he is painting Izzy's nails! He did such a good job, and was so professional!!! ;)

Onah made coupons for Duncan's Dogs...foot massage! haha
We found he was much better at giving back rubs, however!

And Matt made a feast for us!  He was able to finally open his restaurant that he thinks would be a hit in Lexington!...K.A. Bobs

I won't lie, it was really good!  We had 3 different kinds of meat (steak, chicken and pork), potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, cooked carrots, and mushrooms.  Basically we grab a skewer and make our kabob how we want!  Then there was a plate full of fruit!!! YUM...pineapple, bananas, grapes, watermelon, strawberries, and cheese of course!
All this washed down with a bottle of sparkling grape juice!

The kids favorite part was the dessert...candy bar kabobs!
Yeah...that's a skewer full of chocolate!!!!  It was pretty yummy, but wow the calories!!!!

Onah was also the bouncer for the restaurant!  A certain little girl, Izzy, kept sneaking in and getting watermelon before the restaurant opened!  So we called in the services of Onah Lee!

After dinner we had a dance with our sweethearts!  It was so cute to see the kids dancing with each other!  Marie and Onah made it feel like a real Jr. High dance as she would get mad at him for "not dancing right" and pout on the sidelines while he'd hang his head, walk over, and ask her to dance again! Ha!
Finally getting along enough to snap a picture!  It was the cutest thing ever!
Izzy was just content to be in her 'bubba's' arms!  She told us Colten was her best friend! :)  Too sweeeeeet!

After the dance we all settled down for a movie before bed!
It was such a fun evening with the kids!  I can't wait to do it again next year!  Props to Matt for all the good ideas and teaching his boys how to treat a lady!  He's the best!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!!

While visiting my parents for Christmas in Rushville it snowed...like...A LOT!  (Which we don't see much of now that we are in Lex-Vegas.)  So much that we had to delay going home because we were advised on to travel kind of snow.  The kids didn't mind though, that meant they got to play in it!

Colten was on cloud nine!  He's my snow monster!  He's the kid I have to make come in out of the cold because there are icicles hanging from his eyelashes! (Literally...there were!!!)  Onah just likes to play in it cause it's a soft surface when wrestling older brother!  Matt likes the snow cause he can do things to his kids that he normally can't do and it won't hurt them!  For example, he's yelling..."hey Terah, watch this"...I see him fling Onah in the air as my jaw about hits the snow bank, only to watch Onah land in a huge drift of snow and come up laughing hysterically!

Needless to say, you won't find many pictures of the girls in the snow because they on the other hand did not like it one bit! We bundled them up like little snow bunnies and dragged them outside to experience the winter wonder land only to hear a lot of crying and complaining for 5 minutes and off they went back inside!  (Yep 5 minutes is all it took!)  So while the boys were out pummeling each other in the snow my girls spent their time doing......

THIS...
And this! haha!
I mean...I don't blame the girls!
It was blowing snow everywhere, and FREEZING cold!  The wind was so bad!  It was a blizzard!

These are the only glimpses we got of them in the snow!

I'm sure Izzy was running away from me towards the door!

 Colten's classic snow angel!

Love those cold little frozen cheeks!!!
He's really just a big kid!  Look at that smile!
Turned out all the grand kids got a snowball maker from grandma and grandpa!  Came in handy! :)

Not cool when your older brother throws a snow ball right in the only place where skin is exposed!  Been there done that...not fun!
Seen this look one too many times!  He's thinking..."I really want to tackle you into the huge drift you're standing in and make you eat snow"...then some sense comes over him all of a sudden and he realizes I'm holding a really expensive piece of equipment and once again I'm safe!  I love technology! :)
Distracted by the camera and gets hit by Colten's snow ball fury!
In his mind this is equivalent to laying on the sandy beach!

Such a perfect shot!  Dad was out shoveling the walk and threw a shovel full of snow at Colten!  haha!!!  He loved it!...Colten that is (Oh, I'm sure dad loved it too!)

Christmas 2012

This year Christmas kinda snuck up on us!  Matt was gone the first part of December to Liberia so we had to cram all our Christmas traditions into a couple weeks!  Shopping was put to the back-burner and didn't get finished until the day before Christmas Eve!

But when it was all said and done Izzy put it best for all of us!  When asked what she got for Christmas this year she told everyone..."Santa brought me baby Jesus!" (haha...she did get a baby for Christmas!)

Here are a few pictures of our Christmas morning with the kids!

They were all excited about the chocolate santas in their stocking!
 Stockings stuffed and hung...
Matt waking his girls up on Christmas morning!  And yes, I said we had to wake the kids up!  I'm very fortunate to not have to get up in the wee hours of the morning like I hear some people do as their kids anticipate opening presents!  I'm the one who can't wait and end up waking them up...but not till 7! :)
Onah checking out the bean bags under the tree!
Izzy playing with Marie's gift from Santa...go figure!
It was a ninjago kinda Christmas for Colten
Izzy got her own princess dress like Marie's
This is the closest thing to a pet cat we will ever have, and she loves it!...Snowball!
I told you, my kids get excited about chocolate! (wonder where they get that from?)
aahhh, the boppers! I figure they beat each other anyway, why not make it fun, right? haha!
Marie was excited that now she can look stylish and battle the villans in our house! :)
Our Christmas tree :)

Contentment

So I know I'm not alone here but I received a yearly devotion book for Christmas and started using it in January and of course got a few days behind!  So it's February 13th and I'm on February 7th, but it turned out to be a blessing because it spoke directly to my heart today.

Reading Romans 8:28
"We know that in everything God works for the GOOD of those who love him.  They are the people he called because that was his plan."

I can't count the number of times something goes wrong and changes the direction of our path!  I find myself looking back down memory lane and wishing things were different or that some things never happened but I was reminded today that God works ALL things for good of those who love him.  Even those things we wish were different!

So how am I changing my outlook??  Starting with where I am at this point and time and accepting that THIS is where God INTENDED for me to be!  Will I ever look back again?  Of course I will, it's our human nature, but trusting in Him, remaining in His presence, putting my focus back on Him, and relying on the Holy Spirit to lead me will give me peace!

He gives me contentment knowing I am where He wants me!

My Lil' Baller

Colten has been asking to try basketball the last year.  With our experiences with baseball, soccer, and boy scouts we decided to wait awhile.
He started karate and has stuck with it for almost a year now so when sign-ups came around again we signed him up.  He loves it!
He is playing for Upwards, which I love the program.  He's got a great coach who surprises the boys with what she can do at her age! :)
Here's a few snapshots during the game...
 Defense!!!
Practice and more practice to get him to look up when he dribbled :)

COLTENS PUPPET SHOW

While at the Children's Museum, Colten, Cade, and Matt display their amazing acting skills!
